Terms of use

Plain terms for a free tool. The section that matters most to you is the one about authorisation — this software scans networks and connects to equipment, and that is your responsibility, not ours.

Using it

CySecTek is provided free of charge, for personal and commercial use, with no per-seat licence, no registration and no usage limit. You may install it on as many machines as you need and deploy it across an organisation.

You may not redistribute modified builds as though they were ours, or present the software as your own product. Redistributing the unmodified installer is fine, though linking to the download page is better, because that is where the current version and its verified hashes live.

Your responsibility for what you point it at

This software discovers hosts, scans ports, captures traffic and can run DHCP and TFTP servers. On a network you are not authorised to test, several of those are, at minimum, a disciplinary matter and in many jurisdictions an offence.

You are responsible for having authorisation for every network you use it on. A DHCP server started on a production interface will hand out addresses that conflict with the real one, and a port scan across a network you do not own is not made acceptable by the tool being convenient. Use it on infrastructure you own or have been engaged to work on.

No warranty

The software is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.

It has not been independently security audited, and the security page says so. The installer is not code-signed. Both facts are stated plainly so you can make your own decision rather than discover them later.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for any damages arising from use of this software — including lost data, lost credentials, network disruption, business interruption or any indirect or consequential loss.

One specific case is worth naming, because it will happen to somebody: if you lose your app password, your saved credentials are permanently unreadable. That is a deliberate property of the design, it is documented in several places, and there is no recovery mechanism to appeal to.

Third-party components

The application uses open-source libraries under their own licences. Npcap, required by two features, is a separate product from the Nmap Project with its own licence terms — install it from npcap.com and read those terms if you are deploying it commercially at scale.

Trademarks

Product names used on this site — Windows, PuTTY, Wireshark, Nmap, WinSCP, MobaXterm, mRemoteNG and others — belong to their respective owners. They are used to describe compatibility and to compare tools honestly. No affiliation, sponsorship or endorsement is implied by any of them.

Changes

These terms may change. The date at the top will change with them. Continuing to use the software after a change means accepting the revised terms.
